Mark 7:27-29
27 But Jesus said to her [the Syro-Phoenician woman], "Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children's bread [healing] and throw it to the little dogs."
28 And she answered and said to Him, "Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children's crumbs."
29 Then He said to her, "For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter."
NKJV
Matt 7:9,11
9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
NKJV
My Comments:
The story of the Syro-Phoenician woman in Mark 7:24-30 talks about how she had heard of Jesus and His healing ministry and was desperate for healing for her daughter. When she approached Him, what He said to her was that "The children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs." Although it is unknown in this passage of Scripture who the 'children' referred to, a parallel passage in Matt 15:21-28 identified them as the children of Israel.
In His earthly walk, the ministry of Jesus was clear and specific in that He was sent to Israel as their Messiah. As they were the children of Abraham; who God had a covenant with, they were also known as a covenant people, and as previously discussed, one of the Covenant Names of God that was given to them was "Jehovah Rapha" or "The Lord Your Healer". What this meant was that seeing as that they were the descendents of Abraham, they had a right to trust God for their healing.
In His conversation with the woman, Jesus compared healing as to bread, when He said to her that the "children's bread should not be thrown to the little dogs." Because she was outside of the covenant, she was compared as to a dog. However, she went on to impress Him with her persistent faith and as such, she received her miracle.
The point I'm trying to get across is that we are under a much better covenant than that woman as in his letter to the church at Galatia, Paul wrote the following:
Gal 3:26,29
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
NKJV
The moment you believed and accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you became a child of God! And that qualifies you to be a 'child' of Abraham, which means that healing belongs to you as much as it belonged to Israel during the time of Jesus!
Therefore when you go to God for healing, go knowing that you are His child; and that if you have any sickness in your body, ask boldly for healing, knowing that He will give you much more than that!
